megatrax milestones in 2010: randy hart of aircast production wins a grammy

In 2010, Megatrax’s own Randy Hart won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance in collaboration with longtime friend and talented musician, Steve Wariner. When asked about his feelings on winning a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance of 2010, Randy Hart said the obvious, “Lousy!” Of course, he was kidding. After playing music professionally for almost 40 years, to put out a Grammy award-winning recording left Hart with a proud sense of achievement, in addition to bragging rights for weeks to come. Hart played the piano on Steve Wariner’s Grammy winning “Producer’s Medley”, a full CD dedicated to friend and mentor, Chet Atkins, who is best known for his […]

In a talk this week, Dalton Caldwell, founder of now-defunct music startup imeem, forecast a grim future for those who would follow in his tracks. According to Mashable: Yesterday at YCombinator’s Startup School at Stanford University, the founder of the now-defunct music sharing startup Imeem laid out a very grim assessment of the future of music startups. In his words, “every time a founder does a music startup, a likely more successful startup dies.” Dalton Caldwell founded Imeem in 2003 with the goal of reinventing the music industry through free, advertising-supported streaming music. licensing notes from leisa korn for 10/18/2010

One of my favorite tasks at Megatrax is the tracking of our music in commercials. Unlike most people, I stay in the room glued to the television during commercial breaks hoping to catch an airing of one of our spots. Yes, I watch too much TV, but I just consider it an important as well as fun part of my job. It is not just Megatrax as a publisher that benefits from commercial broadcasts, but our composers as well (especially the ASCAP members!) So let me explain the importance of properly clearing commercials with our licensing department. In order to properly clear and track  the commercials, we require some very […]

fox dispute with cablevision may sour baseball season

A disagreement about retransmission may affect viewers and advertisers if Cablevision refuses to carry Fox channels in major markets on the east coast. According to Variety: Both sides dug their heels in, as it began to look less likely that a deal could be hammered out by midnight Saturday morning — when the cable operator’s deal to carry WNYW and WWOR in New York and WTXF in Philadelphia (as well as select News Corp.-owned cable networks) is set to expire. At risk for New York- and Philadelphia-area Cablevision subscribers is Fox’s baseball playoffs coverage, specifically with the Phillies and Yankees both in league championship series.
