Are Tradeshows Still Worth It? Phil Macko Reflects on NAB

Tradeshows? Like everything in the digital age, the role and relevance of tradeshows is changing. In years past the decision to attend events like NAB was a ‘no brainer’. The new products, networking opportunities and client interaction opportunities it offered made the pay-off clear. With the advent of webinars, social media and video conferencing it is now so much easier to interact with clients than it was years ago. This has brought the whole topic of tradeshow attendance into question, especially when coupled with more conservative budgets, etc. With all of the above in mind I attended NAB 2013. My take-away…it’s still as important of a show to attend as [...]

From the vaults: Let’s pay the holiday spirit forward into 2013

SVP of Sales, Phil Macko’s, message after the Newtown shootings last year seems apt in the wake of yesterday’s bombings in Boston. “Perhaps we can change tomorrow by the way we treat each other today.”   Our theme for this month’s blogs is our year in review. I’m finding it difficult to look further back than a little more than a week ago when the horrific attack occurred in Connecticut. Perhaps, now that we have all survived the ‘Mayan deadline’ of 11:11 am on December 21, 2012, we can all move forward to the new stage of enlightenment that the Mayans actually predicted I hope that this new enlightenment begins [...]

Content Will Always be King

My managers and I had the pleasure of meeting together in the charming city of Nashville this past week. In addition to warm southern hospitality and incredible music, the trip offered further evidence of the evolution to digital delivery and its effects on the world of music – and broadcast. From the songwriter who now receives royalties from new broadcast models such Pandora and Spotify, to the radio station now played on TuneIn. From the local news channel now broadcast on Aereo to the original programming now delivered on Yahoo! channels and Netflix. From all perspectives, the advent of digital delivery has forever changed the landscape. What will never change [...]

Know Your Productivity Cycle

Numerous productivity studies based upon circadian rhythm and other internal cycles have proven that most workers have between 4 and 5 hours of peak productivity per day. These are the times when we feel most awake and alert – times when we work most effectively. Most of us are generally aware of our peak times, and when we start scheduling our days in a manner that maximizes our use of this time we can significantly increase our productivity. For example, I am my most productive from 11 am to approx. 4 pm.  I am foggy in the mornings – it takes several cups of coffee (Brazilian or Colombian preferably) to [...]

The Fallacy of Multi-Tasking

Modern corporate  America is built on the assumption that the more effectively a person multitasks the more efficient and valuable they are –  and the higher up the food chain they can move. Headcount reduction, based upon this theory of multitasking coupled with advances in technology, has been widespread across American companies. There is only one problem Corporate America – we cannot multitask. Studies at MIT involving MRI scans conclusively show that the process we commonly consider to be multitasking actually occurs in a sequential, not simultaneous manner. Using an example we often face at work of;  attending a meeting and listening, checking email, then receiving a text (all on [...]
