Megatrax’s Wendie Colter Goes to SXSW 2013

Austin in the Spring – toasty temperatures, friendly faces, and the annual madness known as South By Southwest! I attended the Music event again this year, to seek out new talent for our Marquee Music emerging artists catalog and to get a bead on upcoming music trends. Here are my highlights as well as some nifty video to give you that “you-are-there” feeling (apologies in advance for wobbly footage!). The music takes off on 6th Street in downtown Austin. 6th Street is lined with dozens of clubs, all of which feature bands from 10am to 2am daily. There are also special stages set up on side streets that showcase bands [...]

Megatrax Director of Production Wendie Colter hits NAB & Digital LA’s Post-ASCAP Event!

NAB “Pro Audio Pit” Interview, “Production Music and the Reality of TV” – Monday 4/16/12 I had a lively and fun 20 minute, one-on-one interview at NAB’s “Pro Audio Pit” with Tom Kenny, Editor-in-Chief of Mix Magazine.  There was a nice stage and seating area at one end of the crowded (and noisy!) NAB convention floor, and an interested and appreciative audience. We discussed the needs of our clients from both the creative and technical standpoint, notable changes in the production music industry, current trends and various production challenges.  I showcased the Sound Adventures with a great music montage, as well as highlighting what sets Megatrax apart from the competition. [...]

notes from sxsw 2012

This year’s SXSW was the usual exhilarating, exhausting experience filled with great music, from exciting new finds to familiar faces. I had fun saying hello to some of our wonderful clients at several interesting panels (the panel in the slideshow below features l-r Sherry Orson, J.T. Griffith, Amy Rosen, John Anderson, & Ryan Fitch) and special events, and I also caught up with some of our terrific Marquee Music poster artists at the annual Flatstock poster show. Having been Megatrax’s emissary to SXSW for the past five years as producer and talent scout for our Marquee Music catalog, and also having performed there as an artist for many years, I [...]

director of production wendie colter on megatrax’s 20th anniversary

Ten years ago, I started my career in production music library.  Though I’d been in music for many years as a composer and performer, I was new to this side of the industry, and the broad scope and history of the production library business took me by surprise.  I felt as if a curtain had been pulled back and I was able to see, and hear, something I’d never been fully aware of before.  I was excited to find a perfect fit for myself in a unique and creative side of the entertainment industry. That experience of finding “the perfect fit” is a cornerstone of the Megatrax brand, and what [...]

We sat down with Wendie Colter, Director of Megatrax’s Production department, to find out what’s new in Production and what she’s been up to lately… What’s new in Production? We’re getting in the holiday mood by sending out the last of the Christmas music requests and dusting off our recordings of Auld Lang Syne.  Here’s a little holiday humor to start things off:  Q.) Expect to hear some terrific music to start off [...]

an inside peek at production with music supervisor belinda robles

This month we’re taking a look at the latest in Megatrax’s production department through the eyes of Music Supervisor Belinda Robles… Megatrax: How did you get started in music? Belinda Robles: I grew up in a musical family. My mother made sure I had piano lessons by age 5. From there, I continued to play accordion, woodwinds and saxophone in elementary school, all the way through high school. I was also the JROTC Drum Major for my high school. From high school, I attended San Jose State as a music major for two years until I transferred to Berklee College of Music and graduated with my Bachelors in Music. MX: [...]
